Renaud Lafage, MD
Hailing from France, Dr. Renaud Lafage holds two master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The “Institut National des Sciences Appliquées (INSA)”, Toulouse. He completed internships at Institut Clément Ader, Cinetic Machining, and NYU Hospital for Joint Disease developing a passion for spinal biomechanics and the role of engineering in research and innovations around spine care.
Since moving to the US in 2013, Dr. Lafage has held Research Associate positions at Spine Research Laboratory/NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, and Hospital for Special Surgery. In 2022, he became the Senior Biomedical Engineer for Orthopedics and Spine Research at Northwell Health where his role in the International Spine Study Group (ISSG) involves large data management, simulation, and numerical modelling of the spine. He has contributed to one of the largest custom libraries for radiographic analysis of humans’ full body in the world.
According to Dr. Lafage, he loves that the ISSG gives him opportunity to work alongside world-class spine surgeons and provide insights about patient alignment, addressing post-surgery mechanical issues, and developing predictive models for optimal patient outcomes. With a decade of experience, he has co-authored more than 300 articles and his research is presented in multiple national and international meetings, actively contributing to the ISSG community.
