Neel Anand, MD

Dr. Neel Anand serves as Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Co-Director of the Spine Center at the renowned Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He is also Director of the Fellowship in Comprehensive Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery and President of the Foundation for Research and Education in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (FREMISS)

In his 23-plus years in practice, Dr. Anand has channeled his orthopedic surgery expertise into a career exclusively dedicated to minimally invasive and innovative approaches to the treatment of spinal disorders especially scoliosis in adults and adolescents. Dr. Anand is deeply committed to advancing the field of minimally invasive spine surgery and devotes a considerable amount of time to researching emerging technologies. He has served as principal investigator in several FDA investigational device exemption studies that have helped pave the way for innovation in minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr Anand’s significant contribution in the field of spinal surgery has been the pioneering of Minimally Invasive Techniques in the Treatment of Adult Spinal Deformity. He has published extensively on the subject with long-term outcomes and detailed staged surgical protocols for Circumferential Minimally Invasive Treatment of Adult Spinal Deformity.

Dr. Anand is a heavily published author, editor and presenter of articles, studies and poster/abstract presentations in prestigious academic journals, trade publications, textbook chapters, and worldwide industry meetings with more than 500 contributions to Spine, Spine Deformity, Neurosurgery, Journal of Spinal Disorders, Journal of Orthopedic Trauma and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, among others. He is also the Spine Section Editor for the Prestigious Gray’s Anatomy, still considered to be the most authoritative, comprehensive and a must-read textbook on Human Anatomy.

A physician committed to working alongside the best and brightest minds in this ever-advancing spine surgery field, Dr. Anand has served on committees, advisory boards and on the Board of Directors of prestigious organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), North American Spine Society (NASS), Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), Society for Minimally-Invasive Spinal Surgery (SMISS), Society for Lateral Access Surgery (SOLAS), International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS), International Spine Study Group (ISSG).

Dr. Anand earned his medical degree from the University of Bombay, Topiwala National Medical College in India. He completed orthopedic residencies at the University of Bombay, the Royal College of Surgeons of England in London, the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in Liverpool and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Orthopedic Program at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, New York. Dr. Anand also completed a reconstructive spinal surgery fellowship at the University of Florida Spinal Health Centers in Gainesville as well as a Scoliosis Fellowship and Spine Trauma Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University in New York. He completed his surgical internship at New York Medical College, Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center.
