Thomas J. Buell, MD
Thomas J. Buell, MD, is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. After graduation, he worked as an electrical engineer before attending Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his neurological surgery residency at the University of Virginia and a spine fellowship at Duke University.
Dr. Buell’s clinical practice treats degenerative and deformity adult patients with both complex and minimally invasive spine techniques. Research is an integral part of Dr. Buell’s practice, and he is particularly proud of his collaboration within the International Spine Study Group (ISSG), enrolling in ISSG-CAD-MIS, ISSG-CAD-OPEN, PCDII, and Symphony. Dr. Buell’s research interests are focused on improving clinical outcomes of spinal surgery, and he has published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts.
